Description
The research of the Atomic and Molecular Physics Lab of Univ. of Ioannina is focused on laser/ matter interaction (atoms, molecules, clusters and materials). Additional research activities concern the development of nanostructured materials and fine tuning of their properties with the view of their application as optical sensors. The Lab has a close collaboration with the Central Laser Facility of UoI. Thus, the following laser systems are available :
• Nd:YAG dye laser with 5 ns pulse duration and 150 mJ at 532 nm, and a spectral range of 370-1036 nm
• Nd:YAG dye laser: 5ns pulse duration and 400 mJ at 532 nm, and a spectral range of 205- 1036 nm
• Nd:YAG laser with 35, 50, 100 and 200 ps at 1064 nm (100 mJ), 532 nm (60 mJ), 355 nm (18 mJ), 266 nm (18 mJ) and 213 nm (1 mJ).
• Excimer laser (XeCl /KrF) pulse duration 13ns
• Ti: Sapphire laser producing light pulses of 20 fs (5 mJ, 1KHz), at 800 and 400 nm. The fs laser system is used for pumping of an optical parametric amplifier (OPA)and/or the generation of high-order harmonics lying in the VUV region.
The facility has a number of work-stations including: ToF-mass spectrometers, a photoelectron spectroscopy system, a laser-induced fluorescence (LIF) spectroscopy system, a z-scan system, set-up for thin film and nanoparticles development, optical fiber based sensors, etc.
